Mobile Work Zone Barrier
Caltrans maintenance forces working adjacent to live traffic lanes are continually exposed to the risk of being injured or killed by vehicles that stray into work zones.
Barrier and shadow vehicles positioned behind the workers on foot provide some protection from vehicles entering from “upstream” but due to vehicle spacing, may not provide adequate protection from errant vehicles entering from the side.
From December 1990 to June of 2001, 103 Caltrans employees on foot have been struck by vehicles entering work zones. Of this total 93 were injured and 10 were killed.
This mobile work zone protection barrier, that is quickly and easily transported to the work site, is the next step in worker protection.
